న్యూయార్క్ యూనివర్సిటీ జర్నలిజం బోధకుడిగా సల్మాన్ రష్దీ

ప్రసిద్ధ, వివాదాస్పద భారత రచయిత సర్ అహ్మద్ సల్మాన్ రష్దీ  న్యూయార్క్ యూనివర్సిటీకి అనుబంధంగా ఉన్న 'ఆర్థర్ ఎల్ కార్టర్ జర్నలిజం ఇన్ స్టిట్యూట్' లో జర్నలిజం బోధకుడిగా నియమితులయ్యారు. 1981 లో 'మిడ్ నైట్స్ చిల్డ్రన్' అనే నవలకు బూకర్ ప్రైజ్ పొందిన రష్దీ 'Distinguished Writer in Residence' హోదాలో అక్కడ ఐదేళ్ళ పాటు జర్నలిజం విభాగానికి సేవలు అందిస్తారు. జర్నలిజం విద్యార్థులకు బోధించడం, సలహాలివ్వడం ఆయన విధులు. 
రష్దీ నియామకాన్ని ఎన్ వై యూ జర్నలిజం అసోసియేట్ ప్రొఫెసర్ సుకేతు మెహతా తన ట్విట్టర్ పోస్టులో ప్రకటించారు. 

"Mr. Rushdie exemplifies the mission of the Journalism Institute - a centre for research and teaching in the cultural hub and media capital that is New York City - and he will join our ranks of incredibly talented writers, reporters, producers, and critics, to engage and inform our local community in journalism and beyond," అని ఆ యూనివర్సిటీ ఒక ప్రకటనలో తెలిపింది.  రష్దీ ఘనతలు  ఇలా ఉన్నాయి: 

A Fellow of the British Royal Society of Literature and the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Salman Rushdie has received, among other honours, the Crossword Book Award in India, the Whitbread Prize for Best Novel (twice), the Writers' Guild Award, the James Tait Black Prize and the European Union's Aristeion Prize for Literature.

He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997 for "services to literature".

In addition to his many essays and four non-fiction books (essays, memoir, and reportage), Rushdie is the author of a book of stories and 11 novels, including Midnight's Children, which was awarded the Booker Prize in 1981.

He also holds honorary doctorates and fellowships at six European and six American universities, is an Honorary Professor in the Humanities at MIT, and University Distinguished Professor at Emory University.
